Wanhao: Bringing 3D Printing To A Classroom Today

Wanhao_Teaching2
The first picture brought such warmth to my heart, and in essence is one of the reasons we do what we do. Mikey Omrani spent some time in the classroom bringing the joy and wonder of 3D printing to some students.   Today's children are our tomorrows- by giving them the tools and time, the next Engineer, Artist, or even Scientist might be inspired for new things. Maybe even a Surgeon or Space Travel Pilot! The possibilities are endless if we give them the start to thinking anything they can dream is possible.   Enjoy!                   Nuff Said'

Introducing Kids To 3D Modeling And 3D Printing

wonder_of_3d_printing
We all reach that point where the little ones spying over our shoulder make us wonder if they are ready to dive into the world of 3D Modeling and Printing.   As a parent and adventurous soul I can offer some advice: Anytime you are ready to expose them to it is a good time. There is an incredible range of programs, both online and downloadable to install that are very well suited to opening these doors.   Included in the list below are programs and applications that can cover just about any range of knowledge, up to an including some pretty pro stuff. Some of the more technical ones are included in this list because honestly, your kids might just surprise you at how quickly they pick up on things we as adults take for granted, and I'll tell you why:   They aren't afraid to jump right in....

Let's Install a Flex Coupler The RIGHT Way...

Z-axis-stepper-motor-coupling
Why Would I want to anyways? Z-Wobble! Flex Couplers connect the stepper motor to threaded rods that move your z-axis (and sometimes on a x or y axis) up and down or across. If the motor and the rod are not perfectly aligned, the rotation of the motor will apply force to the rod and push it into x and y direction. This leads to the so called z-wobble and slightly shifted layers. Correct Installation: It's simple: The middle of the coupler must be flexible. So don't insert the rods until they touch each other, just insert the rods on both sides for  5mm . They have to get in touch with the screws, but they dont need go in all the way. A Simple Illustration:   The green marks show how deep the rods should sit in the coupler. The red mark shows where you do NOT want either rod or...
